Then they that feared The LORD spake often one to another: and The LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for them that feared The LORD, and that thought upon His name.

Elisha Traps Blinded Arameans
And he answered, fear not, for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. Meaning the legions of angels that encamped around them. And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And The LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

The LORD Appears to Solomon
And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments: Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.
But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them: Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people: And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house? And they shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this evil.
1 Kings 9:3-9
Solomon's Prayer of Dedication
LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart: Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him: thou spakest also with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.
Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me. And now, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my father.
But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded? Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee to day: That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this place. And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place: and when thou hearest, forgive.
If any man trespass against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house: Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness. When thy people Israel be smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray, and make supplication unto thee in this house: Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest unto their fathers.
When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them: Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.
If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, blasting, mildew, locust, or if there be caterpillar; if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness there be; What prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house: Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;) That they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.
Moreover concerning a stranger, that is not of thy people Israel, but cometh out of a far country for thy name's sake; (For they shall hear of thy great name, and of thy strong hand, and of thy stretched out arm;) when he shall come and pray toward this house; Hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have builded, is called by thy name.
If thy people go out to battle against their enemy, whithersoever thou shalt send them, and shall pray unto the LORD toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house that I have built for thy name: Then hear thou in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near; Yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they were carried captives, and repent, and make supplication unto thee in the land of them that carried them captives, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely, we have committed wickedness; And so return unto thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their enemies, which led them away captive, and pray unto thee toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name: Then hear thou their prayer and their supplication in heaven thy dwelling place, and maintain their cause, And forgive thy people that have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions wherein they have transgressed against thee, and give them compassion before them who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them: For they be thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron:
That thine eyes may be open unto the supplication of thy servant, and unto the supplication of thy people Israel, to hearken unto them in all that they call for unto thee.

The Last Words of David
The Spirit of The LORD spake by me,
and His word was in my tongue.
The God of Israel said,
the Rock of Israel spake to me,
He that ruleth over men must be just,
ruling in the fear of God.
And he shall be as the light of the morning,
when the sun riseth,
even a morning without clouds;
as the tender grass springing out of the earth
by clear shining after rain.
Although my house be not so with God;
yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant,
ordered in all things, and sure:
for this is all my salvation,
and all my desire,
although he make it not to grow.
But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away,
because they cannot be taken with hands:
But the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear;
and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place.

David's Song of Praise
The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
The God of my rock; in Him will I trust:
He is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour;
thou savest me from violence.
I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised:
so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
When the waves of death compassed me,
the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;
The sorrows of hell compassed me about;
the snares of death prevented me;
In my distress I called upon The LORD,
and cried to my God:
and He did hear my voice out of His temple,
and my cry did enter into His ears.
Then the earth shook and trembled;
the foundations of heaven moved and shook,
because He was wroth.
There went up a smoke out of His nostrils,
and fire out of His mouth devoured:
coals were kindled by it.
He bowed the heavens also, and came down;
and darkness was under His feet.
And He rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and He was seen upon the wings of the wind.
And He made darkness pavilions round about Him, dark waters, and thick clouds of the skies.
Through the brightness before Him were coals of fire kindled.
The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered His voice.
And He sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them.
And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered, at the rebuking of The LORD, at the blast of the breath of His nostrils.
He sent from above, He took me;
He drew me out of many waters;
He delivered me from my strong enemy,
and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.
They prevented me in the day of my calamity:
but The LORD was my stay.
He brought me forth also into a large place:
He delivered me, because He delighted in me.
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness:
according to the cleanness of my hands hath He recompensed me.
For I have kept the ways of The LORD,
and have not wickedly departed from my God.
For all His judgments were before me:
and as for His statutes, I did not depart from them.
I was also upright before Him,
and have kept myself from mine iniquity.
Therefore the LORD hath recompensed me according to my righteousness;
according to my cleanness in His eye sight.
With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful,
and with the upright man thou wilt show thyself upright.
With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure;
and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury.
And the afflicted people thou wilt save:
but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.
For thou art my lamp, O LORD:
and the LORD will lighten my darkness.
For by thee I have run through a troop:
by my God have I leaped over a wall.
As for God, His way is perfect;
the word of The LORD is tried:
He is a buckler
to all them that trust in Him.
For who is God, save The LORD?
and who is a rock, save our God?
God is my strength and power:
and He maketh my way perfect.
He maketh my feet like hinds' feet:
and setteth me upon my high places.
He teacheth my hands to war;
so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation:
and thy gentleness hath made me great.
Thou hast enlarged my steps under me;
so that my feet did not slip.
I have pursued mine enemies,
and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them.
And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise:
yea, they are fallen under my feet.
For thou hast girded me with strength to battle:
them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me.
Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies,
that I might destroy them that hate me.
They looked, but there was none to save;
even unto The LORD, but He answered them not.
Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth,
I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.
Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people,
thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen:
a people which I knew not shall serve me.
Strangers shall submit themselves unto me:
as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me.
Strangers shall fade away,
and they shall be afraid out of their close places.
The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock;
and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.
It is God that avengeth me,
and that bringeth down the people under me.
And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies:
thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me:
thou hast delivered me from the violent man.
Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen,
and I will sing praises unto thy name.
He is the tower of salvation for his king:
and sheweth mercy to his anointed,
unto David, and to his seed for evermore.

Like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be recovered, so we must die. But God does not take away life; instead, he devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from him.

Samuel's Farewell Speech
And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain. For The LORD will not forsake His people for His great name's sake: because it hath pleased The LORD to make you His people. Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against The LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way: Only fear The LORD, and serve Him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things He hath done for you. But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.

Hannah's Prayer
My heart rejoiceth in The LORD,
mine horn is exalted in The LORD:
my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies;
because I rejoice in thy salvation.
There is none holy as The LORD:
for there is none beside thee:
neither is there any rock like our God.
Talk no more so exceeding proudly;
let not arrogancy come out of your mouth:
for The LORD is a God of knowledge,
and by Him actions are weighed.
The bows of the mighty men are broken,
and they that stumbled are girded with strength.
They that were full have hired out themselves for bread;
and they that were hungry ceased:
so that the barren hath born seven;
and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.
The LORD killeth, and maketh alive:
He bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.
The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich:
He bringeth low, and lifteth up.
He raiseth up the poor out of the dust,
and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill,
to set them among princes,
and to make them inherit the throne of glory:
for the pillars of the earth are The LORD'S,
and He hath set the world upon them.
He will keep the feet of His saints,
and the wicked shall be silent in darkness;
for by strength shall no man prevail.
The adversaries of The LORD shall be broken to pieces;
out of heaven shall He thunder upon them:
The LORD shall judge the ends of the earth;
and He shall give strength unto His king,
and exalt the horn of His anointed.
